Deep Diving into Krishna's Leelas with Vallabhācārya's Subodhiniji (Śṛimad-Bhāgavata-Mahāpurāṇa)
Introduction to Śṛimad-Bhāgavata-Mahāpurāṇa
Based on extensive commentary by none other than Mahāprabhu-Śṛimad-Vallabhācārya's Subodhiniji.
According to Mahāprabhu-Śṛimad-Vallabhācārya (Shri Mahaprabhuji), the tenth canto of Śṛimad-Bhādavatam contains a total of eighty-seven chapters. Those with keen eyes and a good memory might realise that the Bhāgavatam you are holding has ninety chapters in its tenth canto.
Vallabhācārya states that the original tenth canto of the Bhāgavatam only has eighty-seven chapters and chapters 12, 13 and 14 have been added onto the book much later by an unknown person. Thus, Vallabhācārya does not count them as part of the Bhāgavatam.
He has still written the Subodhini commentary on them because they are part of the popular versions of Bhāgavatam. Nonetheless, even in his Subodhini commentary, he maintains that the three chapters (12-14) are later additions.
The tenth canto of Śṛimad-Bhāgavatam talks about Nirodha. Nirodha is defined as
प्रपंचविस्मृती-पूर्वक भगवदासक्तीती निरोधः
a state in which all a body takes over all worldly affairs while the mind is constantly in a state of trance with Śṛi-Krishna.
In the future posts, we shall be deep diving what made Nirodha possible for all those lucky souls of Vraja.
Every blog post here will be based on Vallabhācārya's commentaries in which he reveals interesting facts, reasons and analysis on Śṛi-Kṛṣṇa's leelas.
Let's begin...
